*Sarpedon is a character from ancient Greek mythology, a Lycian prince who was one of the main heroes of the Trojan war and fought on the side of Troy.

According to Homer's Iliad, he was the son of Zeus by Laodamia and the cousin of Glaucus of Lycia, the second-in-command of the Lycian forces. He was a dominant force in battle, commanding the respect of the Trojan prince Hector and his peers. Patroclus, dear companion of the hero Achilles, killed Sarpedon during the Trojan war, but with the help of Zeus, Sarpedon's body was brought back to his homeland after his death, in Lycia, where he was buried with all honors.
