PREISS Ferdinand (1882-1943)
This german sculptor was one of the leading artists of the Art Deco period. He founded the company Preiss & Kassler with Arthur Kassler, an ivory-carving business with a workshop in Berlin. He designed Art Deco cabinet sculptures combining ivory with painted bronze and mounted on an onyx, marble and sometimes mantelpiece clocks or lampstands base. He worked on many subjects such as dancers, animals or women. His ivory carvings are amongst the most valuable in the world.
