POMPON François (1855-1933)
After being formed in Dijon in Architeture and engraving, Pompon moves to Paris where he is thaught by Rouillard at the Arts Décoratifs and introduced to animal artwork. He worked with many artists such as Mercié, Falguiere or Rodin and will be discovered by the public thanks to his “Ours Blanc” at the Salon d'automne in 1922. Though his style was at first very naturalist, it will evolve into a more stylised and minimalist approach, keeping the animal's real form. His work is now in many museums such as Orsay, Petit Palais or François Pompon.
